  • Common name:  “red head nyererei”
  • Location and Lake collected from:  Zue Island, Lake Victoria
  • Approximate size:  4 inches is the largest I have seen.
  • Food:  I have seen them eat flake and pellet foods, but they should eat frozen and live foods without hesitation also. 
  • pH:  7.4 – 8.4
  • Temperature:  76 – 82 degrees.
  • Breeding behavior:  Mouthbrooder.  Males can be aggressive towards females.  Several females for each male is recommended.
  • Tankmates:  I have seen them in with Neochromis rufocaudalis (formerly nigricans), Pundamilia nyererei Ruti Island, Paralabidochromis sp. Rock Kribensis, Paralabidochromis chromogynos, and Lipochromis sp. Matumbi Hunter without problems.
  • Tank size:  Several adults can easily be house in a 30 gallon or larger aquarium.
