- Approximate Size: 5 – 5.5 inches
- Food: Will eat flake, brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae and pellet food without hesitation.
- Water Conditions: Likes a pH between 7.8 and 9+ with temperatures between 74 and 78 degrees.
- Breeding Behavior: Egglayer. Once a pair forms removing all other tankmates is the best way to reduce aggression. These fish will take over even a very large tank for themselves and their fry. Spawn size can reach up to 500 fry per spawn.
- Tankmates: I have kept juveniles (1 – 2.5 inch) in with Haplochromis sp. Kenya Gold, Neolamprologus pulcher “Daffodil”, and Julidochromis marlieri without problems. Once a pair forms no tankmates is ideal for these fish. You can distinguish between Neolamprologus tretocephalus and Neolamprologus sexfasciatus by looking at the bars under the dorsal fin. Neolamprologus tretocephalus has 3 bars under the dorsal and sexfasciatus has 4 bars under the dorsal fin.
