Vulnerable Fish From Zue Island: Breeding Tips Of Paralabidochromis Chromogynos

  • Common names:
  • Location and Lake collected from:  Mwanza Gulf and Zue Island, Lake Victoria
  • Approximate size:  About 4 inches.
  • Food:  Eats flake, pellet, spirulina, and should accept most foods.
  • pH:  7.5 – 8.4
  • Temperature:  76 – 82 degrees F.
  • Breeding behavior:  Mouthbrooder.  I have not seen any aggressive chasing towards each other or other tankmates from this species.
  • Tankmates:  I have seen them in with Neolamprologus leleupi, Haplochromis sp. All Red from Lake Nawampasa, Pundamilia nyererei Ruti Island, Haplochromis orthostoma, Astatotilapia latifasciata, Neochromis rufocaudalis(nigricans) and other assorted wild Victorian Cichlid species.
  • Tank size:  I have seen trios kept in a 70-gallon aquarium and a pair in a 55 gallon aquarium with multiple tankmates.
  • Additional notes:  This species is listed as vulnerable.
